     Hello, I am Ernest Rogers.  I started this on-line publishing of my work because I do have a lot to say that nobody else will or can say for me.  My hope is that some readers will be inspired to imagine new and better ways to accomplish things-- things that can move the world to a better condition.

    The newest article on my site is about improving automobile fuel economy by aftermarket drag reduction.  I started working in this area five years ago, and was successful in improving the fuel economy by 25% for my 2003 Beetle TDI.  Now, I am planning to build a drag reducing cap for a pickup truck, and this time I think I can go even further, increasing mileage by 30% or more.  Click on the button above to read more and see a picture of my drag reducer.

    You could also take a look of my theory for improving engine efficiency.  I am currently working on an engine that is expected to reach a new level for efficiency and clean operation.  This engine operates at a higher compression ratio than normal.  That gives a higher temperature at the critical time of ignition in the cylinder, an important factor in achieving a clean, efficient burn.  I can't tell you all the details, but I think some readers will benefit from a better understanding of the theory behind building a super-efficient engine.  To read more, click on "Engine Efficiency" above.  To fully appreciate the math, it's better if you have had an introductory class in thermodynamics or a class in engine design.

    My first offering was the result of a few years' work to find a way to build homes that can have very low cost but that are pleasant to live in.  The result is a new approach to making a dome-shaped home without a need for conventional structural materials like steel or lumber, or even bricks.  The idea is to use the structural properties of a curved surface to eliminate the building frame.   I call this an "unbraced dome."  I hope in this way to inspire people to try making dome shelters with local materials and tools that just about anybody can afford.   I am not giving any details here about what materials to use or how to design the building, or even how big a dome to make.  That is for your imagination.  Click on the "Domes" page to dig into the details.  Be warned that the development of the new principles of dome construction that I give are not light reading.  But actually making the domes wouldn't be hard at all.
